Russian President Vladimir Putin underlined the depth of the India-Russia partnership during his bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.
In his opening remarks, Putin described the relationship as one of trust and long-standing support, noting that it extends beyond the realm of politics. “We raise our voice together in international organisations, be it the UN or BRICS. This meeting today will further strengthen our path together. Russia and India share a trustworthy partnership, and it is developing further. It is beyond any politics; people support this relationship,” he said.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation across a range of areas, including trade, energy, defence, fertilisers, space, security, and cultural exchanges. Both leaders also discussed key regional and global issues, with emphasis on the importance of dialogue in resolving conflicts and ensuring stability.
India and Russia maintain what is formally called a “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,” a framework that has guided bilateral ties for more than two decades. Regular high-level summits between the two countries have provided a platform to review progress and set future directions in cooperation.
