Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday described India-Russia relations as a “trustworthy partnership” that transcends politics, during his bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China.

In his opening remarks, Putin emphasised the consistency of cooperation between the two nations in global institutions. “We raise our voice together in international organisations, be it the UN or BRICS. This meeting today will further strengthen our path together. Russia and India share a trustworthy partnership, and it is developing further. It is beyond any politics; people support this relationship,” the Russian President said.

The talks between the two leaders covered ongoing collaboration in sectors such as defence, energy, trade, fertilisers, security, space, and culture. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments, including the importance of dialogue and peaceful solutions to conflicts.

India and Russia have maintained close ties under their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership, established in 2000. The mechanism has served as a platform to review cooperation in key areas and to set future directions.
