Abuja, Nigeria: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Nigeria underscored the strengthening of ties between the two nations, with a focus on advancing the agenda of the Global South. Speaking about the visit, Secretary (ER) Dammu Ravi highlighted the shared commitment of both India and Nigeria to champion developmental issues that resonate strongly with the Global South.

"In the context of the Global South, there is a very strong commitment from both leaders to deepen this understanding. The agenda of development, which is very dear to the Global South, is being taken forward, and the global discourse is being built around it," said Ravi.

India's proactive role in the G20 and its support for the African Union’s inclusion as a permanent member were also highlighted during the discussions. "India is a strong partner of the G20, and now even the African Union is a member of it. On the development issue, we talked about the sharing of experiences between the two countries," Ravi stated.

He further mentioned that Nigeria actively participated in the Voice of Global South Summit, reflecting its commitment to shared global goals. With a focus on future collaboration, Ravi pointed out significant opportunities in the digital and renewable energy sectors, areas where both nations can achieve substantial progress together.

The visit symbolizes India’s commitment to fostering robust relationships with African nations and advancing shared goals in global development, particularly in sustainability and technological innovation.
