Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, during which the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the India-Italy Strategic Partnership. The discussion covered bilateral ties as well as key regional and global issues.
In a post on social media, Modi described the exchange as “an excellent conversation,” noting that both sides expressed shared interest in working towards an early end to the conflict in Ukraine. The two leaders also highlighted the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation and enhancing engagement within the European Union framework.
The Prime Minister thanked Meloni for Italy’s “proactive support” in advancing negotiations on a mutually beneficial India-EU trade agreement, which remains a priority for New Delhi as it seeks to expand market access and investment ties with Europe. Connectivity projects also featured prominently in the discussion, with Modi acknowledging Italy’s backing for the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEEC), a major initiative aimed at boosting trade and infrastructure links.
