BY A STAFF REPORTER: Israeli settlers attacked two Palestinian villages in the occupied West Bank, killing one person and setting a car on fire, the Palestinian Authority said.

The Palestinian ambulance service said a 38-year-old man was shot in the chest in the northern West Bank town of Karawat Bani Hassan.

The Israeli military said soldiers arrived on the scene and used live fire to spread riots and break up the conflict between residents and settlers. Palestinians responded by setting off fireworks and wounding one Israeli and four Palestinians. The incident is being investigated and handed over to the police.
