BY A STAFF REPORTER: One person was killed, three went missing and several others were injured due to heavy rains in parts of Japan. The flooding was caused by the remnants of Typhoon Mawar, which has now become a tropical storm.

A city official said the country's highest evacuation alert was issued on Friday in Toyohashi in the central Aichi region, where a rescue team rescued a 60-year-old man from a sunken vehicle, but was later confirmed dead. ' 

Officials in West Wakayama said they had resumed their search for a missing man and a woman in the area. In the central town of Hamamatsu, a resident could not be contacted after his house collapsed due to a landslide. Some rescue workers searched for the resident.

Fire and Disaster Management said a total of six people had been seriously injured and 29 had suffered minor injuries as of Saturday afternoon.
