BY A STAFF REPORTER: The United States plans to announce a new $300 million military aid package for Ukraine, which will include a short-range aircraft-launched rocket for the first time, two U.S. officials said. Hydra 70 is an air-launched unguided rocket built by General Dynamics. Rockets are usually launched from pods attached to aircraft. The rockets could help Ukraine weaken Russia's ground position and provide aircraft to Ukraine's ground forces as Kiev plans a spring offensive.

Two U.S. officials said the package contained 155-millimeter howitzer cannons. Hemers and Whitzer cannon ammunition, TOW anti-tank missiles and mortars will also be sent, officials said. Demolition equipment and trucks are another part of the package. They warned that the package was still being finalised and that it could change.
