Bahraich: Business activity in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, particularly in the bustling border market of Rupaidiha, has come to a standstill following unrest in Nepal and the subsequent sealing of the Nepal-India border.

Authorities in Nepal have imposed a curfew in several areas, leading to the suspension of cross-border movement. The closure has cut off access for Nepalese buyers, who form a significant portion of the customer base for Indian traders operating in the region.

Shopkeepers and wholesalers in Rupaidiha reported severe financial losses, with perishable goods going unsold and supply chains disrupted. “Our markets depend heavily on Nepalese customers. With the border sealed, business has come to a grinding halt,” said one trader.

The usually busy marketplace has fallen eerily silent, with shuttered shops and deserted streets highlighting the economic impact of the shutdown. Transporters, daily wage earners, and small vendors are among those worst affected.
