Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have pledged to enhance the India-EU Strategic Partnership, emphasizing shared democratic values, economic collaboration, and global stability. Von der Leyen’s visit to India on February 27-28, 2025, marked a historic milestone, being the first official trip of the European Union College of Commissioners outside Europe.
During their discussions, the leaders focused on trade, supply chain resilience, emerging technologies, digital transformation, green energy, and security cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a multipolar global order rooted in democracy, rule of law, and the principles of the UN Charter.
Significant progress was made in Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, with a goal to finalize it by year-end. Other agreements centered on semiconductor collaboration, 6G technology, clean energy, and joint research initiatives. The leaders also discussed strengthening cooperation in maritime security, counterterrorism, and disaster management.
On global issues, Modi and von der Leyen expressed support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and reiterated their commitment to a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine. The visit was hailed as a milestone in India-EU relations, setting the stage for deeper collaboration at the upcoming India-EU Summit.
