BY A STAFF REPORTER: A light plane crashed in rural Australia's New South Wales state on Friday, killing the pilot and three children, officials said. The Cirrus SR-22 took off from Canberra and crashed near the town of Cuambian, about 290 kilometres (180 miles) from Sydney, at around 3pm local time.

Emergency services arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the crash and firefighters extinguished the blaze, but no one survived, police said.
