Moscow/New Delhi: As Russian President Vladimir Putin prepares for his visit to India, the Kremlin has underscored the significance of the longstanding strategic relationship between the two nations. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, addressing the media, described the partnership as one that transcends routine diplomatic exchanges and commercial arrangements.
Peskov said Russia views its ties with India as “much more important” than a simple collection of agreements. “Russia-India relationship is not just a standard set of diplomatic protocols and trade agreements, it's much more important,” he stated. He emphasised that the bilateral relationship is anchored in a “deep historical background of mutual understanding, partnership, and a shared vision of global affairs.”
Underscoring the strategic alignment between the two countries, Peskov said both sides value a world order grounded in international law, mutual respect, and acknowledgment of each other’s interests. “Our bilateral relationship rests on… the rule of law, and the ability to take each other's interests into account. This is a very important characteristic of our relationship,” he said.
He highlighted Russia’s long-standing support for India, saying, “We are proud to have been shoulder to shoulder next to our Indian friends during their historic growth.” According to Peskov, Moscow also deeply appreciates New Delhi’s present diplomatic approach. “We are very grateful to India for a very friendly stand nowadays, very friendly stand towards our country,” he added.
