Mumbai: Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, on Thursday reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to deepening economic engagement with India, calling the country a “key partner” in Rome’s ambitious export strategy. Speaking at the Italy–India Business Forum, Tajani said the partnership had strong foundations but “significant untapped potential.”
“Our companies already cooperate in many sectors. But there is room to do much more, especially in innovation, research and education, which are essential for global competitiveness,” Tajani noted. Highlighting his role as Minister for Trade, he emphasised the scale of Italy’s growth agenda. “Italy aims for 700 billion euros in exports by 2027, and India is a key partner,” he said.
Tajani pointed out that several Italian companies are already active in India across diverse sectors. “Many Italian companies are active here, and sectors like sports, automotive and industry offer further opportunities,” he said, adding that Italy is eager to expand its footprint in India’s rapidly growing market.
He stressed that the partnership must be two-way, encouraging investment flows in both directions. “We want to invest more in India, increase our exports, and also welcome Indian investments in Italy,” he said.
