Ireland-India Economic Advisory Panel Launched in Dublin to Boost Bilateral Trade

DUBLIN: In a significant step to deepen bilateral economic engagement, the Ireland-India Economic Advisory Panel was formally launched in Dublin on 4 September 2025 by Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Harris. The initiative aims to bolster collaboration in trade, investment, entrepreneurship and innovation between the two countries.

The advisory panel includes leading Indian business leaders with strong connections to Ireland, among them Noel Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts, Trent and Tata Investment Corporation and Managing Director of Tata International; Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, CEO of Biocon; Mohit Joshi, CEO of Tech Mahindra; Murtaza Khorakiwala, Managing Director of Wockhardt; and Rajeev Mecheri, Co-founder of Invicara & TwinIt and Ireland’s Honorary Consul in Chennai. Senior representatives from Irish government departments and agencies also form part of the panel.

At the launch, Deputy Prime Minister Harris highlighted the strong historical, cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Ireland. “It was in recognition of the huge and undoubted potential which exists in the Ireland-India relationship that I brought an Action Plan for enhancing our bilateral engagement with India to Government earlier this year,” he said. Harris emphasized the scope for greater economic links under Ireland’s Market Diversification Action Plan.

During the visit, the Indian business leaders on the panel met with the Prime Minister of Ireland, Deputy Prime Minister, and the Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation. They also attended a Business Roundtable hosted by Minister of State Neale Richmond. The President of Trinity College Dublin hosted a private dinner in honour of the Indian dignitaries.

Strongly welcoming the initiative, Ambassador of India to Ireland, H.E. Shri Akhilesh Mishra, recalled the solidarity shared during India’s independence movement and underlined the importance of deepening consultations. He identified start-ups and innovation in agritech, healthtech, sustainable technologies, and professional skilling as promising areas of collaboration. Ambassador Mishra expressed confidence that the panel would act as a catalyst by providing insights and advice to governments, agencies and businesses on both sides to strengthen the Ireland-India economic partnership.
