New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, speaking at the valedictory session of the 12th International Health Dialogue conference in Delhi, highlighted India’s proactive role in the global fight against COVID-19. He emphasized that while India was managing its own vaccination rollout, it still extended critical medical support to countries worldwide.

“When the COVID pandemic started engulfing the world, the initial deliberations—and I was myself present at some of them—ironically, India ended up not only looking at its own needs but actually stepped forward to contribute to the world,” Dr. Jaishankar stated.

He detailed India’s extensive efforts, which included supplying medicines to 150 nations, vaccines to 99 countries and two international organizations, as well as essential medical equipment like masks, PPE kits, gloves, and ventilators.

India’s decision to share vaccines even as its domestic vaccination program was ongoing underscored its commitment to global health security. The move was widely recognized as part of India’s “Vaccine Maitri” initiative, aimed at supporting developing and under-resourced nations.
