Indian Navy Chief Visits US National Defense University, Discusses Expanded Military Cooperation

Washington, D.C.: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi continued his official visit to the United States with a key stop at the National Defense University (NDU) at Fort Lesley J. McNair, where he held extensive discussions aimed at strengthening India–US military cooperation. Admiral Tripathi interacted with Vice Admiral Peter A. Garvin, President of NDU, focusing on expanding professional military education and enhancing institutional linkages between defence establishments of both countries.

The meeting explored avenues to deepen collaboration between higher military learning institutes, including greater exchange of international fellows and faculty. Both sides reiterated the importance of academic engagement and joint training as tools to cultivate interoperability and shared strategic understanding.

Admiral Tripathi and Vice Adm Garvin also discussed contemporary maritime challenges, emphasising the need for coordinated efforts in the Indo-Pacific. Shared maritime interests, domain awareness, and cooperative security architectures formed a core part of the dialogue, reflecting the growing strategic convergence between India and the United States.

During his visit, Admiral Tripathi also interacted with Indian officers currently pursuing advanced courses at NDU institutions, including the Eisenhower School, the National War College (NWC), and the College of Information and Cyberspace (CICA). He encouraged the officers to leverage global best practices and contribute to strengthening India’s strategic capabilities.
