Nicosia, Cyprus | Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Cyprus, the High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Cyprus, Manish, has lauded the vibrant and growing Indian diaspora in the island nation, calling them a symbol of India’s soft power and goodwill abroad.

“Indians have been coming to this small island country for several years now,” the High Commissioner said, adding that while Indians work in various sectors, their presence is particularly strong in the shipping and IT industries.

Currently, around 11,500 Indians live and work in Cyprus, contributing to the local economy and strengthening people-to-people ties. “Everywhere, the Indian diaspora is well respected. There is a great respect for India and Indians, and Indian culture is quite popular here,” he added.

Cultural diplomacy remains a strong pillar of India-Cyprus relations. Yoga, in particular, enjoys immense popularity among Cypriots. “We are planning a huge outreach and public Yoga session to mark International Day of Yoga, which further reflects how Indian traditions resonate here,” Manish said.
