New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday confirmed that External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar held a meeting with US Secretary of State Mark Rubio in New York on September 22. The discussions, according to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, primarily focused on trade and tariffs, though broader aspects of the bilateral relationship were also taken up.
Speaking at a media briefing, Jaiswal said, “External Affairs Minister had a meeting with Secretary of State Mark Rubio in New York on 22nd September… The focus of the discussion was on trade and tariffs. Other aspects of the bilateral relationship were also discussed.”
Addressing questions on the H1B visa matter, Jaiswal noted that the issue remains a point of ongoing engagement. “Our Ministry and our embassy in Washington, DC, have been in active touch with the US administration. Clarifications and FAQs were issued by the US side after that on how it’s going to play out. This is still an evolving situation and we remain engaged at various levels,” he stated.
