In a landmark development that signals a major leap in Indo-British relations, India and the United Kingdom have officially concluded negotiations on an ambitious and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as well as a Double Contribution Convention. The announcement was made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a post expressing his satisfaction after a conversation with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“Delighted to speak with my friend PM @Keir_Starmer,” Modi wrote on social media. “In a historic milestone, India and the UK have successfully concluded an ambitious and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement, along with a Double Contribution Convention.”
Describing the agreement as a “landmark” for both nations, Modi highlighted that the deals are poised to significantly deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UK. “These landmark agreements will further deepen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and catalyse trade, investment, growth, job creation, and innovation in both our economies,” he added.
