New Delhi: Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s official visit to India has reinforced the enduring partnership between the two nations. Speaking about the visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted its significance, stating, “The current visit aims to expand this very robust partnership and take its frontiers even further.”
During his meetings with Indian leadership, President Dissanayake expressed profound gratitude for India’s critical role in Sri Lanka’s economic recovery. He acknowledged India’s instrumental assistance in finalizing debt restructuring agreements and its generous grant assistance for development projects across Sri Lanka.
One of the notable outcomes of the visit was India’s provision of $20.66 million as grant assistance, enabling Sri Lanka to settle payments related to seven completed lines of credit projects. This gesture, President Dissanayake said, exemplifies India’s commitment to its neighbor’s economic stability and development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s steadfast support for Sri Lanka’s economic stabilization efforts. “India’s approach will continue to be investment-based and grant-oriented,” he assured President Dissanayake. Discussions also touched on enhancing trade ties, boosting infrastructure development, and exploring renewable energy collaborations to address shared regional challenges.
The visit underscores the strengthening of India-Sri Lanka relations, emphasizing mutual cooperation for regional stability and prosperity. As both nations continue to deepen their ties, this visit marks another milestone in their enduring friendship.
