India, Nepal Review Cross-Border Rail Projects in Key Meetings

India and Nepal held high-level railway meetings in New Delhi from 27-28 February 2025, reviewing cross-border railway links and overall bilateral cooperation in the railway sector.

New Delhi, March 4: India and Nepal convened the 9th Project Steering Committee (PSC) and the 7th Joint Working Group (JWG) meetings on February 27-28, 2025, in New Delhi to assess the progress of ongoing cross-border railway projects and strengthen bilateral railway cooperation.

The meetings were co-chaired by senior officials from both nations. The Indian delegation at the PSC was led by Rohit Rathish, Joint Secretary (DPA-III) of the Ministry of External Affairs, while Pradeep Ojha, Executive Director (Traffic Transportation-Freight) at the Ministry of Railways, headed the JWG. The Nepali delegation for both meetings was led by Sushil Babu Dhakal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

Key discussions focused on the operational status and expansion of existing railway links, including the Jayanagar-Kurtha-Bijalpura-Bardibas rail line and the Jogbani-Biratnagar and Raxaul-Kathmandu projects. Both sides acknowledged the progress made and reiterated their commitment to timely project completion, enhanced connectivity, and improved trade and passenger movement.
