New Delhi | Strengthening maritime ties, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Indonesia Coast Guard (Badan Keamanan Laut Republik Indonesia - BAKAMLA) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Maritime Safety and Security Cooperation for another three years. The agreement was formalized during the 2nd High-Level Meeting (HLM) held at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi.
The high-profile meeting was co-chaired by Director General of ICG, General Paramesh Sivamani, and BAKAMLA Chief, Vice Admiral Irvansyah. An eight-member Indonesian delegation, led by Vice Admiral Irvansyah, is on an official visit to India from January 24 to 28, 2025, under the provisions of the MoU.
The renewed MoU underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance maritime cooperation, ensuring safety, security, and coordinated responses to challenges in the region. Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening operational collaboration, joint exercises, sharing best practices, and promoting mutual capacity-building initiatives.
General Sivamani highlighted the importance of the partnership in addressing issues such as illegal fishing, piracy, and other transnational maritime threats. Vice Admiral Irvansyah echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the shared responsibility of both nations in maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
