Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled a series of new initiatives to strengthen India’s partnership with Fiji, highlighting cooperation in culture, education, sports, and renewable energy. He was speaking at a joint press conference with Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka at Hyderabad House.
Modi announced that Indian coaches will train Fiji’s national cricket team as part of sports cooperation between the two nations. Expanding on cultural ties, he said, “We have also decided that Hindi and Sanskrit will be taught in universities in Fiji, with Indian teachers being sent for the purpose.” He further noted that priests from Fiji will travel to India for training and participation in the Gita Mahotsav, deepening cultural exchanges.
The Prime Minister emphasized that these initiatives reflect India and Fiji’s commitment to preserving and promoting shared heritage. “This will further deepen our relationship—from language to culture,” Modi remarked.
Alongside cultural and educational cooperation, the leaders also agreed to enhance collaboration in renewable energy, particularly solar energy. Modi said this partnership aligns with both countries’ goals of sustainable development and energy security.
