India has rapidly deployed a specialised contingent to Sri Lanka as part of Operation Sagar Bandhu, a major humanitarian initiative aimed at supporting the island nation in the wake of the severe destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The swift mobilisation underscores India’s continuing commitment to assisting neighbouring countries during large-scale natural disasters.

The deployment includes an Integrated Task Force led by the Shatrujeet Brigade, with medical, engineering and logistics components designed to deliver relief in high-impact disaster zones. The contingent is equipped to provide medical support, restore essential services, and assist civil authorities in stabilising affected areas.

Lieutenant Colonel Jagneet Gill, Commanding Officer of the Para Field Hospital, emphasised the preparedness and capability of the team ahead of their departure. “The Integrated Task Force which is from the Shatrujeet Brigade is assigned to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to the people who have been affected by cyclone in Sri Lanka. This Integrated Task Force will be moving today to Sri Lanka,” he said.

He added that the team is fully equipped to operate independently in challenging conditions. “This Integrated Task Force is not only self-sufficient but will be able to provide all kinds of necessary assistance that is required for the people of Sri Lanka.”
