New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Thursday that 27 Indian nationals are currently serving in the Russian Army. The MEA said it is maintaining close contact with the families of those involved and has raised the matter with Russian authorities, seeking the safe release of the citizens.

Addressing the situation, MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the potential dangers faced by individuals serving in foreign military forces. “We once again strongly urge all Indian nationals to stay away from the offers being made to serve in the Russian army, as they are fraught with danger and risk to life,” he stated.

The spokesperson emphasised that the government is actively monitoring developments and providing consular support to the affected individuals and their families. While acknowledging the ongoing communication with Russian officials, the MEA reiterated its position that participation in foreign armed forces carries significant personal risk.
