New Delhi | In a significant development, India and China have achieved a broad consensus to restore the ground situation in certain areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The Ministry of Defence highlighted this achievement in its Year-End Review for 2024, attributing the progress to continuous dialogue at diplomatic and military levels.

For several months, both nations engaged in high-level talks aimed at resolving long-standing differences in some areas along the LAC. The consensus, according to the Ministry, was built on the principles of equal and mutual security, ensuring a balanced approach to de-escalation and restoration of peace in the region.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the progress during the Chanakya Defence Dialogue held on October 24, 2024. “This consensus is proof that continuous dialogue brings solutions,” Singh said, emphasizing the importance of sustained engagement in addressing bilateral challenges.

The talks are seen as a critical step in easing tensions that have flared along the LAC in recent years. Both sides have expressed a commitment to maintaining peace and stability while ensuring that their respective security concerns are addressed.
