Beijing | The 23rd Meeting of the Special Representatives (SRs) of India and China took place in Beijing on December 18, 2024, marking a significant step in addressing the longstanding boundary issues between the two nations. India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi led the discussions, focusing on maintaining peace along the border and exploring a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary question.
This meeting followed the recent agreement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping during their encounter in Kazan, where they emphasized the importance of early engagement between their respective Special Representatives to oversee border management and advance boundary negotiations.
The discussions in Beijing were comprehensive, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to maintaining tranquility in the border areas. They acknowledged the progress made in previous dialogues and expressed determination to build upon these foundations to achieve a lasting resolution.
A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to enhance communication mechanisms to prevent misunderstandings and manage incidents along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Both parties recognized the need for continued dialogue to address differences and strengthen mutual trust.
The Special Representatives also deliberated on broader aspects of the bilateral relationship, emphasizing the importance of stable and positive ties between India and China for regional and global peace. They agreed to maintain regular contact and convene subsequent meetings to sustain the momentum of discussions.
