Lord Raminder Ranger, CBE, Member House of Lords, United Kingdom: The situation in the United Kingdom is the result of successive governments ignoring the feelings of the local people.

A record number of immigrants came into the country, and it could not absorb them quickly. Also, a record number of asylum seekers entered the country illegally. Many are bogus asylum seekers.

Some are being accommodated in luxury hotels at a cost estimated to run in billions of pounds each year. Unfortunately, some immigrants come from countries which do not have British values like religious tolerance, respect for the rule of law and respect for women.

As a result, they are not integrating quickly. Some have started to groom young girls, committing crimes and engaging in terrorist offences. This has made the situation worse with the locals. More importantly, some leaders do not encourage their people to integrate into British society and adopt British values. Instead, the impose their values which have kept them back from the rest.

The new government has taken a rigorous step against the hooligans, and the police have been deployed to control the unrest. Scores of arrests have been made and many sent to prisons.

I hope people will realise that they are damaging their own country where they and their children now live work. They are also damaging the race relations which is prerequisite for a civil society.

The King is very upset to see unnecessary violence and riots. He has appealed for calm and tolerance. I hope people will listen to the pleas of the King who is the King of everyone.
