New Delhi: German Ambassador to India Dr. Philipp Ackermann has praised the growing academic presence of Indian students in Germany and called for even greater participation, especially in top-tier public universities across the country. Speaking at an event in Delhi, he noted that Indian students now form the largest non-German group in German universities, with over 50,000 currently enrolled.
“Our experience with Indian students is excellent,” Dr. Ackermann said, commending them as “an ambitious, industrious and very courageous bunch of people” who succeed not only in academics but also in launching careers post-graduation. He emphasized that Germany offers high-quality education with minimal tuition costs, especially in state-owned and state-run universities, which are globally recognized for academic excellence.
“We want to increase this number specifically in one area, namely in the top universities,” he said, encouraging Indian students to explore programs that align with their interests in Germany’s public university system.
Germany has become an increasingly attractive destination for Indian students due to its world-class research facilities, generous post-study work opportunities, and a strong reputation in fields like engineering, computer science, and business.
