BY A STAFF REPORTER: Germany will try to boost Ukraine's air defense capabilities this winter and deliver a promised package of equipment worth about 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion), including an additional Patriot system, to help protect critical infrastructure.

In an emailed statement on Tuesday, the Defense Ministry said Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government will deliver two more committed IRIS-T air defense systems, including guided missiles, this month. The package includes an additional 10 Leopard A1 combat tanks, three more Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns and 155mm of ammunition delivered in the coming weeks.
