Four dead in accident in mine in southern Poland

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Four people have been killed in an accident at the Sobiski mine in southern Poland's Zorznor, a spokesman for the country's State Mining Office (WUG) said.

WUG spokeswoman Anna Swenierska-Tadla said a rescue operation at the mine was underway based on the latest information she received at 7 p.m. local time.

According to reports, the accident took place when a group of six workers were pulling out the pipe when the pipe burst. The accident took place around 4:30 pm local time.

"When the pipeline was being filled with water, it burst uncontrollably, killing three people on the spot," WUG spokeswoman Anna Swenierska-Tadla said. "
