New Delhi, June 13 — Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong during the latter’s two-day official visit to India from June 12 to 13, 2025. The discussions covered a range of bilateral and regional issues, with a focus on religious and environmental cooperation.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Foreign Secretary Misri expressed appreciation for China’s support in facilitating the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra this year, a long-awaited pilgrimage route that had been suspended due to COVID-19 and border tensions.
“The Foreign Secretary appreciated the Chinese side’s cooperation for the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra this year,” the MEA said.

Another key agenda item was hydrological cooperation on trans-border rivers. Misri referred to discussions held during the April 2025 meeting of the Expert Level Mechanism, which focused on the provision of real-time hydrological data — especially crucial during monsoon and flood seasons.
“He noted the discussion in the April 2025 meeting of the Expert Level Mechanism for cooperation in trans-border rivers for resumption of provision of hydrological data and other cooperation, and hoped for progress on them,” the MEA added.
