Foreign Secretary of India Vikram Misri undertook an official visit to Nepal from 17 to 18 August 2025 at the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation across diplomatic and defence sectors.
During his stay in Kathmandu, Misri called on Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and formally handed over an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit India on mutually convenient dates. The invitation is seen as part of ongoing efforts to maintain high-level exchanges between the two neighbouring countries.
The Foreign Secretary also met the Chief of Army Staff of Nepal, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, to discuss matters of defence cooperation. On the occasion, Misri handed over a consignment of defence stores and equipment to the Nepali Army. The supplies included Light Strike Vehicles (LSVs), critical care medical equipment, and military animals, intended to bolster Nepal’s operational and humanitarian capacities.
