Delhi: Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka on Monday reiterated his country’s commitment to strengthening relations with India during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House.
Rabuka highlighted the historical and cultural ties between the two nations and expressed admiration for India’s global role. “We will continue to treasure our relationship with this great nation, this great country, particularly at this time, the great leader that India has,” he said.
Recalling earlier interactions, Rabuka noted India’s outreach to Fiji in recent years, including high-level visits. He said, “We were very honoured last year to have received the President of the Republic in Fiji. And when you came in 2014, I was there, way back in the crowd, just waving.” He added that while he was not aligned with Fiji’s government at the time, his perseverance has now brought him to share the stage with India on both regional and global platforms.
Rabuka emphasized shared goals of promoting peace, stability, welfare, and development. “We have the same objective for people,” he remarked, underlining the convergence of priorities between the two nations.
