European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen Visits India, Focuses on Global Peace and Security

New Delhi: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, accompanied by the College of Commissioners, arrived in India for high-level discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior officials. The visit marks a significant step in strengthening diplomatic ties between the European Union (EU) and India, with a strong focus on global peace, security, and economic collaboration.

A senior European Commission official underscored India's role as a key partner in fostering peace, stating, "We look at India as a partner for peace, and to the extent that it is an advocate for peace, I think the time is certainly right for having the discussion on what durable and just peace looks like." The official further emphasized the EU's commitment to ensuring clear and credible security guarantees for Ukraine while working with global partners to uphold stability beyond Europe.

The discussions between EU and Indian leaders are expected to cover the ongoing geopolitical crisis, economic cooperation, and India's perspective on global security challenges. The EU delegation aims to explore avenues for collaborative efforts to achieve sustainable peace and enhance strategic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region.
