New Delhi — Errol Musk, father of tech billionaire Elon Musk, has commended India’s progress in green technology and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, calling the nation “very important” in the global shift toward sustainable energy. Speaking in response to a question about India’s advances in the sector, Musk expressed cautious optimism while also highlighting the scale of challenges ahead.

“No, India has made great strides, is making great strides, and continues to do so,” he said. “From the government’s perspective, they are actively pushing for it as well. India is a very important country in this regard, so yes, I’m happy with what I see. I think it’s very good.”

However, Musk also issued a note of caution regarding the scale of investment and infrastructure needed to keep pace with rapidly increasing demand. “It still needs to improve and get better because the demand for charging and electricity storage is expected to grow at least tenfold over the next five years,” he stated.

He further pointed out the immense financial opportunity the sector presents. “Financially, the industry is projected to grow from a $10 billion industry to somewhere between $100 and $150 billion within five years in India,” he added, underscoring the urgent need for continued innovation and expansion.
