Delhi: External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar has expressed satisfaction with the growing bilateral ties between India and Portugal, noting the constructive discussions held during the recent meeting of the two countries' Prime Ministers in Rio de Janeiro. Speaking about his visit to Portugal, Dr. Jaishankar shared positive reflections on the deepening partnership.
"We just met alongside our Prime Ministers, when they met in Rio. I think that was a very good discussion," Dr. Jaishankar said, referring to the recent high-level meeting. "I am glad to have the opportunity to take forward some of those issues. I was in Portugal a year ago. Very good memories of that visit. I am really glad that we are having a reciprocal one."
The External Affairs Minister emphasized the importance of the ongoing diplomatic exchanges, noting that both nations share strong bilateral relations, with a wide range of areas for cooperation. "We have very good bilateral ties, but there are a number of regional and global issues where our exchange will be mutually useful," he added.
Dr. Jaishankar’s comments reflect the growing engagement between India and Portugal, with both countries working together on key issues, including trade, technology, education, and security. He also highlighted the shared commitment to addressing regional challenges and contributing to global stability.
The visit marks a continuation of high-level dialogue between the two nations, which has witnessed increased cooperation across multiple domains in recent years. India's partnership with Portugal is seen as vital in furthering India's interests in Europe while also enhancing ties with a key European Union member.
