Dark Days: What did Modi say from Egypt?

Emergency was declared in India 48 years ago from today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi commented on this issue.

By a Staff Reporter: On June 25, 1975 during the Congress period, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency in India. This state of emergency continued for 21 months. The period from 25 June 1975 to 21 March 1977 is considered the darkest chapter of Indian democracy. Today marks 48 years since the beginning of this dark chapter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi twitted this message. He is currently visiting Egypt. From there he twitted, "I pay homage to all those courageous people who resisted the Emergency and worked to strengthen our democratic spirit. The dark days of Emergency remain an unforgettable period in our history, totally opposite to the values our Constitution celebrates".
