By a Staff Reporter : Aspartame is a low-calorie artificial sweetener used as a sugar substitute in various food and beverage products. The non-sugar sweetener, found in many soft drinks, is set to be declared carcinogenic by WHO's cancer research unit.
Accoring to sources, It is known by the brand names NutraSweet, Equal, and AminoSweet. Aspartame is widely used as a sugar alternative because it is about 200 times sweeter than sucrose (table sugar) but contributes significantly fewer calories. It will be listed in July as "possibly carcinogenic to humans" for the first time by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)
