New Delhi: General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), is set to visit Nepal next week, marking another milestone in the ongoing military diplomacy between India and Nepal. The visit underscores the long-standing strategic ties between the two nations, which have shared military cooperation for over a century.
The visit is seen as a reaffirmation of the deep military relations between the two countries, built on common security concerns, historical cooperation, and mutual strategic interests. India and Nepal have engaged in numerous joint initiatives, military training programs, and security collaboration, strengthening their bilateral defense ties.
During his visit, General Dwivedi is also expected to visit the famous Shri Muktinath Temple, a revered site for both Hindus and Buddhists. The visit to the temple holds a special significance as it was also a place that General Bipin Rawat, India’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), had wished to visit before his untimely passing in December 2021. In his memory, a bell named ‘Bipin Bell’ was installed at the temple in February 2023, commemorating his legacy and contribution to India’s defense forces.
The visit by General Dwivedi will further cement the military relationship between India and Nepal, highlighting the continued importance of defense and security cooperation between the two neighboring countries. The shared history and growing ties between India and Nepal make this visit a crucial step in strengthening their partnership for future strategic collaboration.
