Kolkata, June 8 — In a vibrant celebration of cultural exchange and linguistic excellence, the India Finals and Awards Ceremony of the 2025 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for College and Secondary School Students was held in Kolkata. The event, attended by students, educators, and dignitaries, was graced by the presence of the Chinese Ambassador to India, Mr. Xu Feihong.

In his keynote speech, Ambassador Xu warmly congratulated all participants and especially commended the award-winning students for their dedication to Chinese language learning. “I am deeply impressed by your passion and the accuracy of your pronunciation—many of you speak Chinese better than I do,” he remarked humorously, choosing to deliver his speech in English in appreciation of the students' linguistic competence.

The ambassador emphasized the historical and cultural connections between India and China, from the Silk Road exchanges to shared influences in language, religion, and art. He highlighted that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations and stressed the importance of people-to-people exchanges, especially among youth.

In a symbolic moment, Mr. Xu presented the flag to the Indian Youth Delegation set to visit China later this year. The delegation will travel to cities including Beijing, Shanghai, and Shijiazhuang to experience Chinese culture firsthand.

Calling the youth the “future and hope” of China-India friendship, the ambassador encouraged students to continue their Chinese studies, not only as a means to understand China but also as a gateway to new opportunities in life.
