Mr. Qin Yong, Acting Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, stressed that the relationship between India and China is experiencing what he described as a “further elevation.” Speaking against the backdrop of frequent high-level exchanges, he underlined the progress made since last year’s leaders’ meeting in Kazan, and more recently, the meeting in Tianjin.
In an exclusive interview with ANM News, Mr. Qin said that these meetings have laid the groundwork for new “common understandings” between the two nations. He explained that such engagements not only strengthen bilateral ties but also serve as guiding frameworks for future cooperation. He described this phase as a crucial moment for both countries, especially as they look to enhance strategic communication and economic partnership.

On the issue of global tariffs imposed by the United States, Mr. Qin was clear in his position. He emphasized that China opposes tariff wars, calling them “unfair for everyone.” He stated that while China advocates multilateralism in global trade, it will also work closely with other affected nations to safeguard its interests. However, he clarified that this does not mean opposing any country directly but rather defending fair trade practices collectively.
Addressing the subject of connectivity, Mr. Qin highlighted a remarkable surge in people-to-people exchanges this year. He revealed that Chinese embassies and consulates in India have already issued nearly 2.5 lakh visas to Indian citizens in 2025—surpassing last year’s total. He also pointed to the opening of pilgrimage routes to sacred sites in Tibet, noting that over 16,000 Indians have completed their religious journeys this year alone.
Looking ahead, Mr. Qin expressed optimism about the resumption of direct flights and deeper exchanges under the guidance of the two nations’ leaders. He concluded that these steps will contribute significantly to strengthening the foundations of India-China friendship and cooperation.
