Chile forest fires kill 99 as hundreds remain missing

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Chile's President Gabriel Boric has warned that at least 99 people have been killed and hundreds are missing in the wildfires that have spread to central Chile.

The fires, which started several days ago, are terrorizing the exteriors of the coastal cities of Vina del Mar and Valparaiso, two popular with tourists. West of the capital, Santiago, is an urban area of more than a million people.

According to sources, the entire area has been burnt, where the corrugated iron roof has collapsed, residents are screaming among the burnt houses. There are cars on the road.
