OTTAWA, June 12 — Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed deep sorrow following the crash of an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London, which claimed more than 200 lives. Among the 242 people on board, one was a Canadian citizen, Carney confirmed in a statement posted to social media on Wednesday evening.
“Devastated to learn of the crash of a London-bound Air India plane in Ahmedabad, carrying 242 passengers — including one Canadian,” Carney wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “My thoughts are with the loved ones of everyone on board. Canada’s transportation officials are in close contact with counterparts, and I am receiving regular updates as the response to this tragedy unfolds.”
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner went down shortly after takeoff, crashing into a medical college hostel near Ahmedabad’s airport. There were no immediate reports of survivors. The Indian government has launched a high-level investigation into the incident, and recovery teams continue to work at the crash site.
