New Delhi: Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates on Thursday lauded India for its innovative approaches that have the potential to improve millions of lives across the Global South, linking the country’s achievements to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of equality and dignity.
Speaking on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Gates highlighted that the principles of inclusiveness and social responsibility, championed by Gandhi, are at the core of the work carried out by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. “Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of equality and dignity for everyone are foundational to our work. India has pioneered solutions that can save and improve millions of lives across the Global South,” he said.
Gates acknowledged India’s leadership in public health initiatives, technological innovation, and sustainable development efforts that have had a transformative impact beyond its borders. He noted that India’s experience in scaling interventions—from vaccine distribution to digital services—offers valuable lessons for other developing countries facing similar challenges.
