New Delhi: A cultural event organized by the Austrian Embassy in collaboration with the German Embassy brought a rare Western classical music and opera performance to India. Austrian Ambassador to India, Katharina Wieser, expressed her admiration for the event, calling it a "fantastic experience."
"I'm quite stunned by the performance… One does not often see Western classical music, particularly opera, performed in India. But for us, Europeans and Austrians, it is an essential part of our culture. Witnessing Indian artists bring this tradition to life was truly special," Wieser said.
The event aimed to strengthen cultural ties between India and Austria, with Wieser emphasizing her country’s deep-rooted artistic legacy. "Austria, though small compared to India, is a world power in art, culture, and classical music. We regularly bring Austrian artists to India, fostering cultural exchange," she noted.
She also highlighted the unifying power of music, calling it a "language understood everywhere." The event underscored Austria’s commitment to promoting classical music worldwide while offering Indian audiences a rare glimpse into its rich operatic tradition.
