BY A STAFF REPORTER: A 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck Ishikawa Prefecture in the Sea of Japan on Monday afternoon, killing at least six people. Japan's meteorological agency has lowered all tsunami warnings in the Sea of Japan. But the agency urged residents to remain vigilant for more possible earthquakes and tsunamis.

Tsunamis were seen in several towns in Ishikawa. Wajima recorded one over 120 centimeters and Kanazawa recorded one over 90 centimeters.

Ishikawa police said an elderly man was confirmed dead after being rescued from a collapsed house. They confirmed five more deaths.

The fire department said it had received reports of more than 50 houses collapsing. They are also responding to reports of people trapped under damaged buildings. Authorities and hospitals said several people were injured in four other prefectures, including Niigata and Toyama.
