BY A STAFF REPORTER: At least 85 civilians have been killed in a military drone strike targeting a religious gathering in northwestern Nigeria, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Government officials said the strike took place in the village of Tudun Biri in Kaduna state on Sunday night during a Muslim holiday to mark the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. The military believes it is targeting "terrorists and bandits".
The National Emergency Management Agency said in a statement that at least 66 people were injured in the attack. The agency said 85 bodies, including children, women and the elderly, had been recovered so far.
