BY A STAFF REPORTER: At least 42 people have died in Haiti after flash floods inundated thousands of homes, local authorities said.

Haiti's Civil Protection Agency (DPC) said Monday that more than 13,600 homes had been flooded as water entered parts of the Caribbean over the weekend. The DPC said 85 people were injured and 11 were missing in the floods. Haiti received heavy rain over the weekend in the west, northwest, southeast and central parts of the country.

DPC chief Jerry Chandler said: "The biggest impact has been in the west, where the capital, Port-au-Prince, is located. About 13,400 people have been displaced in the West, Nipsey, Sud-East, Nord-West and Centre divisions. '
