BY A STAFF REPORTER: At least 26 people were killed and several others missing after a ferry capsized in a water body in north-central Nigeria, local officials said.
"The boat was carrying more than 100 people, including women and children, to Mokwa Local Government Area of the state," said Bolgi Ibrahim, spokesman for the Governor of Niger State. The victims were crossing a large dam and were on their way to their farm. "
"Twenty-six deaths have been confirmed, mostly women and children, more than 30 people have been rescued and a joint rescue operation by maritime police and local divers is underway in collaboration with the Niger State Emergency Management Agency," Ibrahim said in a statement. '
