Inter-communal violence! 10 dead, tears all around

At least 10 people have been killed in inter-communal violence over land rights and taxes in southwestern Congo.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: A militia group armed with guns and knives has killed at least 10 people in inter-communal violence in southwestern Congo. This is the latest incident of a deepening crisis caused by conflict on the other side of the vast central African country.

Provincial government spokesman Adelaard Nkisi said a militia group called Mobondo attacked civilians and burned several houses in the village of Ipongi, just 230 miles (370 kilometers) south of the capital Kinshasa.

"An unknown number of people were abducted by militia members. The provincial government has sent defence and security forces to restore security in the area. '
